Dear Ms. Welker,
I am reading Island of the blue dolphins by Scott O'Dell. I choose this book because when I was in third grade I had to read award winning books and sunshine state books. So I went to the library and they showed me a list of books, I could choose so since I liked dolphins I choose the book Island of the blue dolphin. So I think the first seven chapters are going to be about about how the island is and who lives on it. I think this because just reading the title makes me think that it is going to be about what I said in my prediction.
My prediction came true but in the 2nd chapter. So after I read I had a question. Why did the father die? I tried to find the answer but it didn't work so I inferred that the English dude got his pocket knife and and stabbed the father of this girl named karana and cut his mouth too. Any how I had trouble with the word Aleuts. so I asked my dad and he said it was a name of a city. So I think that karana is a good person and that she will grow up to be a good women. I also think that survival skills are good so karana is prepared. When I read some more I had another question. How did the town Ghalas-at know all those survival skills? I found the answer when I read around. So the answer was their ancestors.

Hi Ana I like your fount colers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAna,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me like you may have read this book before. I was a little confused about why you were telling us about choosing a book in 3rd grade. I want to see your predictions be about what is going to happen when you read. That will help you understand what you are reading Your prediction about the fist 7 chapters is not very helpful to you understanding what you read.
Why do you think that Karana is a good person what will grow up to be a good woman? What in the story makes you think this? These are the types of details I want to see in your posts.
